Purchasing Manager

Norton Motorcycles, one of the worlds most iconic Motorcycle brands is expanding its production capabilities, at its Manufacturing Facility in Castle Donington. Our Business is expected to grow significantly over the next 10 years as demand for our existing quality Motorcycle range increases and our new V4 Superbike is introduced into the market.

We are looking for an experienced Purchasing Manager with a track record of delivery within manufacturing/engineering / automotive industries. You will be an enthusiastic and capable individual whose internal relationships will be as important as those with your suppliers.

The Business is currently experiencing significant growth due to the increase in demand for our new and existing range of bikes.

 

Skills Required:

  • Understanding the process of buying raw material and components, through in-house manufacture, assembly and point of sale through a global dealer network. All controlled under one roof.
  • Understanding of a complex product range with multiple manufacturing techniques and a global supply chain.
  • A proficient negotiator with proven abilities in influencing people at all levels within the organisation.
  • Experience in product costing and/or cost bill of materials and identification of product cost drivers.
  • Good understanding of legal regulations and contract setting.
  • Experienced in managing a team.

 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Have an understanding of technical engineering, along with a strong manufacturing and quality knowledge.
  • Strong commercial background within a high-tech manufacturing and/or engineering industry.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to build productive working relationships with both staff and Directors.
  • Integrity and confident when working under pressure.
  • Ability to remain proactive at all times.

Motorcycle Service Technician

The role of Motorcycle Service Technician at Norton Motorcycles (UK) Ltd is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to join a small close knit team of industry professionals in a fast moving and dynamic environment, working with one of the most passionate and exciting names in the motorcycling industry here at Donington Hall.

You will be working on both the 961 Commando and Dominator, and be fully trained on the service of the brand new V4SS and RR.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Test and diagnose vehicle faults, interpreting repair order instructions and technical information.
  • Conduct pre delivery inspection on our range of motorcycles to an excellent standard.
  • Oversee future technicians and give training
  • Carry out all servicing and repairs to manufacturer standards and with effective use of time and resources.
  • Accurately report vehicle faults and work carried out for ease of reference by service reception.
  • Have clear communication skills.
  • Work tidily and safely, in a professional manner.

 

About you:

You will be reliable, dependable and trustworthy, and be able to integrate and contribute to the team seamlessly.

It might be that you have your experience in another mechanical discipline, but you will have a minimum of 3 years experience, and a qualification in your discipline to level 3 or equivalent experience.

Diagnostic knowledge, and a range of experience on differing motorcycles is a strong advantage.

Design Engineer

Norton Motorcycles is expanding its production capacity. Our Business is expected to grow significantly over the next 10 years as demand for our existing motorcycle range increases. This is an excellent opportunity to work for one of the worlds most iconic motorcycle brands. Based in our Castle Donington factory, you will be working in a fast paced and dynamic environment. Our team of industry leading professionals are looking for new members who share our passion for motorcycling.

The role of the Design Engineer will be to produce, create and update new and existing parts and assemblies. The successful candidate will need to consider and define the design intent and any packaging limitations. A hands-on approach and can-do attitude are essential. As part of our continual development program this will also include providing help in creating and updating departmental procedures.

The Design Engineer will be expected to work on their own completing allocated tasks to time with minimal supervision.

 

Working as a Design Engineer your main responsibilities will include;

  • Production of schemes for motorcycle components and assemblies using 3D CAD
  • Producing fully detailed drawings in CAD
  • Specifying component parameters including materials, heat treatments, surface finishes and geometric tolerancing
  • Releasing of new parts following the internal Design Change Procedure
  • Liaising with other Norton departments and external suppliers
  • Producing and updating engineers lists
  • Establishing and considering design aspects including;
    • Manufacturing methods,
    • Component duty cycles,
    • Strength and fatigue calculations,
    • Corrosion resistance and environmental conditions,
    • Finishing,
    • Homologation,
    • Assembly process,
    • Cost and supplier feedback,
    • Cross platform commonisation,
    • Whole vehicle packaging and clearances,
    • Benchmarking of competitor applications,
    • Departmental procedures.

 

Candidates will need to satisfy the following essential requirements;

A minimum of 2 years automotive experience with continual Pro-E or CREO experience is required.

An understanding of fundamental motorcycle principles.

A knowledge of DFM and DFA.

Be experienced in materials and manufacturing processes such as castings, forgings, pressings and welding.

Senior Design Engineer

The role of the Senior Engineer will be to manage new and current models they have been allocated. Leading their team of Design Engineers, they will need to meet design and engineering deadlines. Timely decision making and positive team leadership is key to a healthy and productive working environment. A hands-on approach and can-do attitude are essential.

 

Working as a Senior Engineer your main responsibilities will include;

  • Design and development responsibility for your project,
  • Project planning and maintenance in conjunction with Purchasing, Production and suppliers to ensure trial builds and SOP dates are met.
  • Ensuring timely release of all components and design changes in keeping with project timeline.
  • Signing-off engineering drawings to ensure the timely release of drawings and engineers lists to Purchasing and suppliers.
  • Providing open communication with other internal departments to ensure design feasibility.
  • Signing and presenting Design Changes for approval to other departments.
  • Managing and understanding of Design Change Requests from other departments.
  • Following and policing company, departmental and quality policies.
  • Ensuring design intent and changes are proposed for Design Review meetings.

 

Key characteristics that a Senior Engineer should demonstrate;

  • The management of your team including;
    • Keeping moral and motivating your team.
    • Delegating workload carefully to an individual’s capabilities,
    • Providing strong leadership when required.
    • Making decisions when required.
    • Recognising team areas for improvement and providing training.
    • Assisting with technical questions and engineering support.
    • Keeping staff working within departmental procedures.
    • Completing staff appraisals.
    • Authorising holidays and overtime within set limits.
    • Assisting in the recruitment of new team members.
    • Inducting and appraising new starters.
    • Running team and individual workload meetings.
  •  Continual development of the knowledge base and capabilities within the Design and Engineering department. This includes;
    • Assisting the Engineering Manager in creating and maintaining department procedures.
    • Attending and inputting into the Engineering meetings for Chassis and Powertrain.
    • Sharing and communication of technical knowledge with other teams and individuals via Engineering meetings.

 

Candidates will need to satisfy the following essential requirements;

A minimum of 6years automotive experience.

Experience leading projects, people management and planning.

Pro-E or CREO experience is preferred but not essential.

An understanding of fundamental motorcycle principles.

A knowledge of DFM and DFA.

Experience liaising with supply chain.

Be experienced in materials and manufacturing processes such as castings, forgings, pressings and welding.

Buyer (Mandarin Speaking)

Norton Motorcycles are looking for a Buyer (Mandarin Speaking) to join its Purchasing team based at Donington Hall. Joining the existing team of buyers, this individual will form part of a driven and ambitious purchasing function which is working to both short term and strategic buying goals. We believe that communication, management and development of the supply chain are paramount to our successful business.

We are looking for a Buyer with a track record of delivery within manufacturing / engineering / automotive industries who is fluent in Mandarin. You will be an enthusiastic and capable individual whose internal relationships will be as important as those with your suppliers who is happy and confident with communicating with Mandarin speaking suppliers both verbally and via email.

 

Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Purchase of goods, materials and services in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets.
  • Support the purchasing function and other relevant departments, communicating any supply problems which may impact on a project/s
  • Prepare and raise orders and order schedules.
  • Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications, ensuring that a professional and consistent approach is taken up.
  • Act as a point of contact to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues, escalating to management when needed.
  • Negotiate contracts, improving prices and terms with suppliers whilst maintaining quality standards and expected delivery lead times.
  • Work closely with team members to review opportunities for continuous improvement within the purchasing function.
  • Access and contribute to the evaluation of current and/or prospective suppliers in relation to performance (quality, cost, delivery on time)

Buyer/Senior Buyer

We are now looking to recruit a Buyer to be based at our headquarters at Donington Hall. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment for one of the most passionate and exciting names in the Motorcycling industry.

Working with the existing team of buyers you will form part of driving the purchasing function of this UK based global brand to ensure a robust and committed supply chain. We believe that management and development of external suppliers is paramount.

The successful person would need to be an experienced Buyer with a track record of delivery within manufacturing/engineering/automotive industries. You must be able to demonstrate a track record of cost reduction through both direct negotiation and working strategically with suppliers to find mutually beneficial cost-downs. You will be an enthusiastic and capable individual whose internal relationships will be as important as those with your suppliers.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensuring there are always sufficient components in stock to satisfy the demands of production
  • Optimising stock levels
  • Developing the practice of expediting purchase orders to ensure delivery promises are achieved
  • Coordinating with all other departments for smooth functioning and prioritising of purchasing departmental activity
  • Participating in the development of purchasing specifications for material, components or products
  • Monitoring the financial relationship with key suppliers
  • Ensuring compliance with the company’s quality and environmental standards.

 

Previous experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment is preferred and you will need to demonstrate the ability to manage the operational raw material requirements of a manufacturing business.
