Supplier Development Lead Engineer
Job Overview
The Norton Motorcycle Company Ltd is looking for an experienced supplier quality development engineer with a proven track record of delivering improvements within manufacturing / engineering / automotive industries. You will be an enthusiastic and capable individual with a hands-on approach to Quality prepared to lead by example to instil a mindset of ‘Customer First’ within a busy supply chain. You will need to demonstrate the ability to manage a high degree of change within an organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Will include, but not limited to:
Leading and managing a small team of SQ&D Engineers utilising recognised Quality tools & PPAP (NPAP) whilst providing the first line of escalation for the management of Quality and Engineering related supplier issues.
Monitor the workload of the SQ&D Engineers and allocate priorities if conflicts occur.
Review, monitor & provide the monthly information for the operational KPI’s as required
Assist suppliers in developing and implementing their own KPI’s in support of Norton Motorcycle business targets
Engage with Senior Management leadership at strategic & key suppliers and launch the requisite improvement programmes in order to achieve and sustain high levels of performance
Conduct supplier selection audits to assess capability and suitability (NCA). Working closely with the Norton Purchasing department to ensure suitable supplier selection and feedback on supplier performance concerns
Maintain and develop the working relationship with the procurement department to ensure that technical queries are resolved promptly (minimising and eliminating disruption to supply). Ensure that NCR’s & DCN’s are managed effectively with the incumbent suppliers and accurate information is provided on a timely basis.
Mentor & manage suppliers in the use of the PDCA cycle and pursuit of relentless root cause analysis for presenting quality & delivery problems
Assess the effectiveness of the processes used to identify & implement the required improvements to meet targets. Including the Product, Process & System audits conducted by the incumbent SQ&D Engineers
Support the management development at suppliers to resolve quality issues and ensure product quality and supply continuity
Experience:
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels internally and externally.
Experience of leading change/improvement implementation programmes with both Senior Management & operational teams, a background/experience in Lean manufacturing will be a distinct advantage
Ability to motivate
Capable of driving issues through to completion
Supplier sourcing management using the PPAP system is essential
Automotive experience is preferable
Strong problem solving skills and experienced in root cause analysis techniques
Self-sufficient and good organisational skills
