TT, IOM 25th May 8th June, 2013.
 NORTON RETURN TO THE TT

18th April saw us launch our new race bike and announce entry into the 2012 Senior TT. The Norton V4 shown below that our worksrider, Ian 'Mackers' Mackman, will be taking around the gruelling 37.73 mile world famous mountain course.

 THE BIKE - SG1

1 swingarm

The Spondon swingarm accomodates a quick release rear wheel. Stability levels are quickly adjusted thanks to plenty of wheelbase adjustment engineered into the swingarm.

2 exhaust

Final designs show a Quill straight-through exhaust system. A quieter exhaust has been used throughout testing as engine noise would break most test facility regulations.

3 wheels

BST Carbon fibre wheels help keep the weight down and also lowers the unsprung mass. Stability is crucial.

4 frame

A Spondon frame with adjustable engine mount positioning, adjustable swingarm pivot, adjustable headstock angle and designed to allow airflow through the headstock in the airbox.

5 fuel tank

With no rules on the maximum fuel tank capacity in the Senior TT, a 24-litre tank has been mounted. This means two pitstops during the six lap race.

6 engine

Aprilia RSV4 engine with race internals. 195bhp with fuel injection by AT Power with shaft-less butterfly technology and fixed trumpet lengths with twin-cable actuation.

7 yokes

Billet aluminium top and bottom yokes, along with billet throttle bodies have been manufactured inhouse using the Norton Technology Centre and inhouse CNC machinery.

8 suspension

Top spec components such as Öhlins superbike gas forks and a TTX rear shock with Brembo racing calipers front and rear with racing master cylinders.

Overview

The bike itself is a Spondon chassis with Ohlins front and back suspension, BST carbon wheels shod with Dunlop’s. The engine is an RSV V4, we have been talking to the Aprilia Factory in Italy and similar to CRT we have no absolute factory support off them, but they are there for information and help if and when required.

The bike itself has been built solely within the factory at Donington Park, we have made very many of the parts ourselves within our CNC machine facility here at the Norton factory. For example we have made our own wheel spindles through to throttle bodies! We have a great partner with the fuelling system and electronic package for the bike in Active Technologies Limited.

High end components from Ohlins and Brembo and a polished aluminium tank

We’ve gone with our traditional polished aluminium tank, all the styling and bodywork has been put together here at the factory also. Replicast are working with us to complete the aero package.

Ian Mackman is riding the new bike for us, he is a great guy and hugely passionate about his racing. We are pleased to have him in the team working with us to develop the bike.

The TT organisers have been really helpful and a refreshing change in the racing game. The Norton team are looking forward to getting there and providing some excitement and fun for the TT crowd, we’ve even lined up a TV presenter to serve brews for the fans front of garage!!
