Senior Calibration and Development Engineer

The role of Senior Calibration and Development Engineer at Norton is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to join a small close knit team of industry professionals in a fast moving and dynamic environment, working with one of the most passionate and exciting names in the motorcycling industry here at Donington Hall.

The role would include overseeing the continued improvement of a range of exciting Norton projects, including road and race motorcycles for driveability and durability. This would also include development of chassis electronic functions such as traction control, launch control and anti-wheelie strategies. Production vehicle calibration and emission control experience would be advantageous but not essential.

 

Experience (essential):

 

  • Relevant experience of a high end engine management control system such as GEMS, Cosworth, Magnetti Marelli or Motec.
  • A good understanding of powertrain systems
  • A good understand of motorcycles
  • Minimum of a basic knowledge of chassis control strategies
  • Good communication skills at all levels

 

Responsibilities and deliverables:

 

  • Calibrate vehicle emission behaviour to meet program target emission standard whist satisfying other vehicle attribute targets such as combustion noise, driveability and performance
  • Delivery of aftermarket and performance tuned products across the range
  • Assist in powertrain development, problem solving and resolution
  • Delivery of chassis control systems such as traction control, anti-wheelie and launch control
  • Assist in electrical specification of the motorcycle
  • Provide testing support where necessary, overseas or trackside
  • Integrate drivability and performance targets alongside emissions
  • Provide support throughout the homologation and certification process

Responsibilities:

 

  • To Define and take ownership of our Business Quality Management System
  • Roll out the Business Quality Plan through all Departments
  • To oversee all aspects of internal and external (supplier) quality complaints
  • To drive continuous improvement through quality improvements
  • To have responsibility for the QMS system and ISO 9001 audits
  • Communicate all Quality Systems and Processes to the Norton Team through support, training and appropriate communication channels.

 

To be considered, you must have the following skills, personal attributes and experience:

 

  • Higher level relevant qualification (degree or HND or equivalent)
  • Minimum two years’ experience as a quality manager or quality engineer in an Engineering, Automotive or Manufacturing Environment.
  • Good knowledge of Continuous Improvement, 6 Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodology
  • Knowledge of Welding, Assembly and Paint/Lacquering and Process Control of these areas
  • Experience working with Supply Chain and Purchasing Departments, Stores
  • Experience in Bought In and Internal Parts Stock Handling and Rejection processes

Quality Inspector

As a result, we are looking for a Quality Inspector, to oversee all inspection processes, surrounding Parts and Products, and to ensure both External and Internal Processes are rigorously adhered to.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Review, improve and undertake all essential inspection activity , including Goods In, Production and End of Line Final Inspection.
  • Define Inspection Frequency for all Parts Based on High, Low and Medium risk classification
  • Use of relevant measurement tools and instruments to ensure every part can be measured correctly
  • Maintain and Improve work instructions, including product / customer specific documents
  • Ensure any Work in Progress rejects are handled in a timely and effective manner and all wastage processes are adhered to
  • Carry out internal audits and surveillance and spot checks as required
  • Review & Validate in-process inspection, including some manual inspection
  • Maintain inspection facilities and equipment to a high standard, including calibration control

 

Key requirements:

 

  • Good understanding of Mechanical Engineering
  • Good knowledge of Welding, Assembly and Paint processes and Final Inspection of Electro Mechanical Products
  • Experience of working closely with suppliers and ensuring Problems are identified, rectified and followed through to completion
  • Experience in a similar role, preferably within an Automotive or Manufacturing background
  • Inspection Knowledge
  • Familiar with modern Quality processes (Corrective Action, Root Cause analysis , etc)
  • Good Communication skills and able to contribute to transforming the Business Quality performance

Paint Shop Supervisor

Reporting to the Production Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining quality standards in the existing low volume-high quality hand painting and lacquering facility, and also be heavily involved in the design of a new state-of the art Paint Shop.

We are seeking an experienced Paint sprayer with good people engagement and supervisory skills who is happy to overcome short term challenges for long term improvement.

Our Paint Processes include all stages from post weld preparation, masking, spraying, air brushing, lacquering, and curing and final inspection.

Experience with chrome would also be an advantage

Live-in Domestic Housekeeper for Donington Hall

Donington Hall the home of the iconic British brand Norton Motorcycles (UK) Limited is looking for a live in Domestic Housekeeper. We would also consider couples with ability for gardening/maintenance work.

The housekeeper will be responsible for the running of the owners private accommodation and also the overall tidiness and cleanliness of the Hall, which is the centre piece of many activities and functions such as product launches, weddings, conferences and black tie balls.

The person or couple must be experienced in all aspects of professional housekeeping and be flexible and adaptable. Duties will be varied as it includes looking after the owners interests and accommodation along with the Hall events that occur from time to time.

Senior Design Engineer

As a senior member of the design team the candidate will have engineering responsibility for derivative models and following these into production, as well as significant areas on new projects.  A senior design engineer will also assist with the day to day running of the design office.

CAD Engineer

Buyer

Norton Motorcycles is looking to add a Buyer to its Buying team based at our new headquarters at Donington Hall. Working with the existing team of buyers this individual will form part of driving the purchasing function of this UK based global brand to ensure a robust and committed supply chain. We believe that management and development of external suppliers is paramount.

We are looking for an experienced Buyer with a track record of delivery within manufacturing/engineering/automotive industries. You must be able to demonstrate a track record of cost reduction through both direct negotiation and working strategically with suppliers to find mutually beneficial cost-downs. You will be an enthusiastic and capable individual whose internal relationships will be as important as those with your suppliers.

International Dealer Manager

Norton Motorcycles (UK) have a vacancy for an International Dealer Manager based at their headquarters at Donington Hall in Castle Donington. 

Managing the global dealer network the role will be the direct line of contact to the dealer and distributor network.  Comprehensive responsibilities will include planning of dealer network - dealer management process to include all aspects of the application, appointment or replacement of new and existing dealers.   Building a global dealer network is essential to explore new market opportunities.  In addition Dealer Agreement amendments and renewals along with warranty procedure and build planning. 

 

Knowledge and Experience 

The successful applicant will display excellent communication qualities, forward thinking and be pro-active with judgement, direction-setting and achieving targets.

Motorcycle Technician

The role of Motorcycle Technician at Norton is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to join a small close knit team of industry professionals in a fast moving and dynamic environment, working with one of the most passionate and exciting names in the motorcycling industry here at Donington Hall.

 

KEY TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Test and diagnose vehicle faults, interpreting repair order instructions and technical information.

• Plan necessary work and order parts to ensure vehicles are ready as promptly as possible.

• Carry out all servicing and repairs to manufacturer standards and with effective use of time and resources.

• Discuss any work requiring specialist skills with the workshop supervisor/controller.

• Accurately report vehicle faults and work carried out for ease of reference by service reception.

• Observe relevant health and safety procedures, including the use of protective clothing and equipment.

• Maintain work area, tools and equipment in a safe and clean condition.

• Maintain correct warranty procedures and clocking details in line with defined company procedures.

• Train apprentices when required and supervise ensuring work is checked before being released.

• Return exchanged parts to the parts department.

• Maintain quality standards of dress, attitude, customer care, honesty and health and safety in order to portray a professional image to customers at all times.

• Follow personnel policies and procedures, including holiday periods, disciplinary codes, etc.
